Every year since 1995, The Sandy Springs Society has recognized a volunteer in the community who exemplifies community spirit by contributing his or her time for the betterment of Sandy Springs. The Society acknowledges the individual’s work with a donation of $1,000 to a secular, non-partisan non-profit organization of the winner’s choice.
2011 Spirit of Sandy Springs Award Recipient Fran Farias
Fran Farias began her outstanding service career as a PTA co-president at Woodland Elementary School; she has since dedicated 31 years to the Sandy Springs community.
In her current role as president of the Sandy Springs Women's Club, the oldest non-profit in Sandy Springs, Fran has played a key role in reviving the club. She actively works with regional and state women's clubs to provide mentoring and scholarships to young girls.
A member of Rotary Club since 1996, Fran has served in numerous leadership positions, including president and in 2010, District Rotarian. She will continue her service to the Rotary Club in 2011-2013 when she becomes director of the Rotary Leadership Institute, reflecting her hands-on-participation in service projects.
Since 1998, Fran has also volunteered her time with Leadership Sandy Springs and currently serves on this organization's board. A project to provide summer enrichment camps for disadvantaged youth is just one of Fran's wide range of activities at Leadership Sandy Springs.
As a local State Farm Insurance agent, Fran has secured State Farm servie grants for organizations in our community and has also made significant personal contributions to local non-profit organizatins.
In addition to serving on various boards and fundraising for non-profits such as the Sandy Springs Education Force, Fran is also a member of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber.
Fran signs with the Chancel Choir of Roswell Presbyterian Church, where she currently serves as an elder.
